Some may say that blocking spam from reaching your inbox is essentially blocking free speech. Well that could be the argument by spammers themselves as they try to justify sending out these unsolicited emails. However, true censorship would block this form of advertising all together, which is not the case in the UK. Under UK legislation some marketing emails can still be sent until the recipient decides to opt out, as long as they were sent within the UK. Spammers are then no longer permitted to email you from that address under the Data Protection Act 1998.
So you have the right to opt out of receiving future emails from these spammers – but who really has the time to wade through the copious amounts of junk mail we get each day? Plus by accessing and unsubscribing from these emails, you indicate to spammers that your email address is live thus making you a target for more junk mail. Additionally, with viruses, inappropriate content, or phishing scams contained in spam, a business is exposing itself to further risk if they access these emails.
Fortunately, anti spam detection services offer spam blockers that can simply block junk mail from entering you server without you having to do the filtering yourself. Here at Message Stream, our anti spam protection can be added to your organisation’s email server quickly and easily. By using sophisticated spam filtering and spam blocking techniques, we can save you time, hassle and even money by ensuring only the good emails reach your network.

There is no denying that in today’s business environment, email is one of the most accepted forms of communicating. It is easy to use, gets the message out there quickly and is generally cheaper than phone calls. Email really is here to stay.
However, it seems that spam is too. Billions of spam emails are sent everyday, and as well as being a nuisance to businesses, they can also spread incredibly harmful viruses and phishing scams.

How many times have you received an email from your bank asking you to click on a link to verify your details? However, was it really your bank, or an imposter? Unfortunately, the latter option would almost certainly be the answer.
This type of practice is known as phishing. Phishing involves fraudsters sending out spam emails which appear to come from a legitimate source, usually well known brands, which attempt to steal your personal information such as PIN or credit card details. By requesting you click on a link, you are taken to what appears to be a genuine website. You are then asked to provide your personal information, which is then captured by these fraudsters. Victims of phishing can suffer financial loss or even have their whole identities stolen.
Businesses need to ensure they protect themselves against this bogus practice. But how do you determine what is real and what is phishing? Luckily, the next generation of anti spam technology is sophisticated enough to easily identify and remove these fraudulent emails from your account before you even see it.
At Message Stream, we let you plug into our award-winning anti spam technology which is so thorough; it virtually eliminates the threat of phishing. In fact, we can detect 99% of all spam that attempts to enter your network by scanning every email with our leading spam filter service. Any identified spam is simply removed – all without you having to deal with the hassle or worry about these types of threats to your business.

Spam or junk email can be traced as far back as 1978 when a poorly written email was sent to multiple users, promoting a computer company’s open day. Back then the internet was known as the Arpanet, mainly used by universities and the government. This first known instance of spam sparked outrage, as it broke the Arpanet’s policy of sending only non-commercial emails.
Sadly, as we all know, spam caught on, and our inboxes became littered with junk mail that offered a whole host of useless or often bogus offers. Additionally, the threat of viruses is today still a concern as spammers continue to send unsolicited emails, which can potentially cause wide-spread damage to whole servers and be majorly disruptive to an organisation’s operations.
However, thanks to vast improvements in anti spam technology, modern networks can be effectively safeguarded against this type of email risk. The new generation of anti spam filters can now successfully detect most junk mail and block it before it even gets to your inbox.
At Message Stream, our award-winning anti spam service can detect up to 99% of junk mail – making it one of the most accurate catch rates available. Using the most advanced technology we catch, filter and blacklist spam before it even reaches your network. We can connect with all SMTP servers and our super fast scanning is done without any email delay. We do this without you having to lift a finger – letting you concentrate on the successful running of your business.

As far back as 1997, Domain Name System (DNS) blacklists have been in operation, with the sole purpose to blacklist spam by publishing the offending IP addresses.
Also known as spam blacklists, they contain a list or a database of IP addresses that are suspected to be spammers. Typically those email addresses that regularly send high volumes of unsolicited mail are considered to be spammers. If the maintainers of these lists receive spam from one of these email addresses, they will add them to their blacklist. When an email is received by an organisation, the IP address is checked against these blacklists and if it has been sent from a spam address, it gets blocked.
DNS blacklists can help you filter your emails and determine which ones are considered junk mail. You can check the IP address on any number of DNS blacklist sites and even report suspected spam to help protect others. However as anti spam services have become more innovative over the years, the process of determining and blacklisting spam is now much simpler.
At Message Stream, our advanced anti spam technology makes filtering and preventing junk email so much easier. We use a boundary layer check to determine validity of the email address, and if it is deemed junk mail we blacklist it. There is no user intervention required on your part and you have up to 14 days to inspect the detected spam yourself. This makes it a much simpler, faster and secure process.

In recent years, various changes to the law have meant there is an increased need for businesses to seek out effective email archiving systems. Whilst there is currently no overarching law governing how organisations should store emails, for some industries there are specific legal requirements.
Financial Services Providers must comply with FSA regulation that requires emails to be stored for a minimum of six years. European Union member states are required under the Directive 2006/24/EC to store email data for anything up to 24 months.
The Data Protection Act 1998 gives people the right to request and access any personal data held about them by an organisation. This can include data such as letters and email correspondence. Businesses that do not have an efficient system for retrieving emails can be
exposed to risky legal liabilities. Consider just one untraceable email and the potential damage it can cause for an organisation.
With such a backdrop of conflicting requirements, now more than ever organisations should protect themselves against any email risk, by establishing an efficient system to manage their email data.
At Message Stream, we offer the complete email archiving solution by securely and efficiently storing all your organisation’s emails off site. With a superior spam filter, it can easily detect what and what not to archive – all done automatically and in real time. Plus, it also gives you instant access to all your company’s archived emails – not only giving you peace of mind, but making your life easier through simple storage management.

It is estimated that ninety percent of all email is considered to be spam, which makes it incredibly difficult for companies to identify genuine emails quickly. Many businesses depend upon email in order to communicate with customers, receive and send orders for merchandise, for marketing purposes and much more. Each day, employees waste valuable time sorting through emails, getting rid of junk emails, and trying to deal with legitimate emails. The junk emails are usually archived, as occasionally a genuine email will be missed when trying to sort through the messages.
If a customer email is missed as a result of the mass of spam email, there can be serious consequences, especially if the email was a query from a client or an order for merchandise. This can have a negative effect on customers who will not trade with a company who appears unreliable. There are steps that can be taken to prevent spam such as a spam blocker from the service provider but these are often not effective enough and the junk emails still get through.
There are ways to filter emails but many businesses don’t have the resources to employ an individual specifically for this purpose and the process is time consuming as well as being a drain on bandwidth. Outsourcing to a company such as here at MessageStream where we will stop spam before it reaches your inbox. We will ensure that emails are archived so that if you need to check them you can do. Outsourcing spam services is a low cost method to ensure your business isn’t affected by spam.
